Random LA Day

The other weekend Jeremy and I drove down to Carson to get 5 Guys. People in LA rave about In'n'Out, but there is really no comparison. 5 Guys is so much better. (Don't hate me LA people!) 5 Guys lets you pick all of these different toppings for their burgers, and their fries are thicker and have this amazing seasoning. Afterward when we drove home, I took some pictures of the clouds. I know that seems lame, but there are almost never clouds in LA. They looked so pretty with the mountains and downtown.

Candles

So this is a pretty random post, but I really wanted to share this picture.

I love love love candles. And my mom does a great job finding me some really cool one for holiday presents. To the left is an oil candle she got me with flowers floating in it. It is definitely the most beautiful candle I've ever seen. In the middle is the driftwood candle holder I just got at Kelly Green, and to the right is a corn cob candle! No joke. That is a candle. I think I am saving it for Thanksgiving next year. My boyfriend deserves some credit too. Although he did not give me any of these candles, he did give me those beautiful flowers for Valentines Day.

Target Collaborations Re-Release!

I the last 5 or so years Target has done some amazing collaborations with high end designers, and starting on March 13th, they are re-releasing 30 or so of their best sellers! I am so excited. I've already picked out 14 of their dresses that I'm sure I can't live without (even if my wallet isn't so sure yet, I'm still trying to convince it). Fashionista has the whole collection. Be sure to shop the collection as soon as it comes out! The collection will probably only be in stores for a week or two.

Kelly Green in Silverlake

During my explorations of Silverlake, I came across a lovely eco- and wallet-friendly store (which is great, since often those two characteristics do not combine). It was raining as I walked around, the door to Kelly Green was open, and the warm light seemed to just pull me in. Once inside, I wanted to buy everything. I'm in love with the natural soaps and candles, the bamboo kitchen utensils, the cardboard animal heads, the indie greeting card selection, the reclaimed-metal jewelry, and especially the driftwood candle holders.

I was able to resist buying the conch shell ring which doubled as weapon, since it was not quite as wallet friendly. But I did take home several cards and a driftwood candle holder. Believe it or not, the candle holders ranged from only $15-$17!

Dreaming of Past Vacations - Muir Woods

I am working on an article for school, but it is going nowhere. I'm getting pretty frustrated, which always results in day dreaming about being somewhere else and looking through pictures of my favorite vacations. I came across the pictures from Jeremy's and my hike in Muir Woods during our trip to San Francisco this summer, and boy do those pictures have me craving being anywhere except in front of a computer screen!

Coffee and Cheese at Sunset Junction

On Friday I had to drop my boyfriend's car off at a shop, but lucky for me he picked a shop that was only a 10 minute walk from Sunset Junction in Silverlake. So I walked over to Intelligenstia for some coffee and a place to do work while I waited for the car to get fixed. This was my first time at Intelligenstia, and it was pretty intimidating. The coffee and tea selection is full of exotic names and above average prices. But I sucked up my pride, admitted I was new to the scene, and asked for some advice. I loved the coffee I ended up getting (Rugerero).

The clientele is a fun mix. Yelp reviewers describe it as "hipsters," but it is really a much richer group of people. Vintage junkies, poetry reading intellectuals, gossiping girlfriends, coffee snobs, mothers who are determined to still have a life (in a good way), a woman who walked around with her cat tucked into her coat (I kid you not), and some people just looking to use the free internet to check Facebook.

Before heading back to get the car, I stopped into the cheese shop next door. The Cheese Store of Silverlake is so tucked away you would never find it if you did not get out of your car. But it is such a hidden treasure that it is really worth parking and walking around until you find it.

The woman who helped me had been working there for 3 years and was very friendly and knowledgeable. I can't wait to go back for more recommendations (and probably a bottle of wine)!

Blue and Orange

I saw this last image on Karla's Closet and loved the color combination. (Also, I am a big puffy vest fan.) So I started saving some blue and orange images I came across on the internets. Images from various sources: 1 & 2, 3, 4 & 5, 6, 7 & 8, 9.

I'm Such a Nerd - Lusting for Some Loafers

I'm dying for a classic pair of loafers. Does the make me the biggest loser ever? O well. I'll take a pair of any of these loafers over being one of the cool kids.

Classic Fashion Inspiration at "From Me To You"

From Me to You (a fantastic photography blog) covered New York fashion week this season as one of 24 bloggers selected from Tumbler. Every day of fashion week, she took pictures of her outfit which was inspired from one of the great style icons of the 20th century. While her fashion week coverage was good, her outfit posts were amaaaazing. I need her keys to thrifting and hair styling!

A Glimpse of Santa Barbara

Another post of old pictures, this time from Easter weekend 2010, Jeremy's and my first visit to Santa Barbara. We stayed in a little but very nice motel in Montecito, the town next to SB. I got the room for a steal on Priceline. On Saturday, my friend led us on a hike called the seven falls. When they say "hike" in SB, they do not mean a casual jaunt like the ones in Griffith Park; they mean a serious hike. We were walking through a stream, scaling rock faces, and making paths were there were none. But every moment of it was absolutely breathtaking, and it made me fall in love with SB.

The photos above are from around Montecito, which is such an adorable little town. I especially loved the topiary displays at a garden shop because they had a hippo (my favorite animal)! The photos below are from our hike.
