4th of July Feasting

My boyfriend and I didn't go anywhere or plan anything special for the 4th, but we still managed to throw together a pretty festive and delicious dinner. I tried my hand at making potato salad for the first time. Turns out its super easy! So that went well. Then I baked some brussels sprouts and boiled some corn, while my boyfriend grilled some brats for us. We finished off with some red-white-and-blue skewers. (We also decimated a brownie cake topped with whipped cream and more berries that I made, but I wasn't able to resist diving into it long enough to take a picture.) We finished the night watching some fireworks that we could see in the distance from our balcony.

How was your holiday?

Happy 4th!

My fellow Americans, take a moment today to appreciate just how great this country is. Yes, we're far from perfect, but when I look at almost all the other countries around the world, I'm so glad I grew up here. So today I'm celebrating just how much we have achieved in the 236 years since we declared our independence. Even if it's a bumpy road, I know this country only gets better with age!

July 4th Foods

It's kind of a bummer that July 4th falls in the middle of the week this year. So no 3 day weekend. But, on the positive side, no matter what day of the week July 4th falls, it still provides a fantastic chance to eat grilled meats, corn on the cob, and any kind of dessert that you can put some blue and red berries on. (Blue and red berries make everything festive!) What will you be making?

Well I know the fireworks have come and gone...

...but having been back at the office for 3 days now, I can't resist reminiscing about how awesome 4th of July weekend was! Before this year, I had missed fireworks 3 out of the last 4 years. I am totally a kid at heart. So missing fireworks always makes me super sad. When it started to rain before the display was set to go off, I started to get really worried that they would cancel them, but thank goodness most of the rain clouds cleared away! Amy, Steph, and I got to enjoy the full display from the 12th floor balcony of my tourist-free office building. Our favorites were the new fireworks that explode into little stars instead of the normal color blobs. For all of you who love fireworks as much as I do, here are some of the pictures to help you reminisce about the night!

This is the picture Amy took:

Enjoy the pictures! Til next year!
