Florence and the Machine at the Festival Pier

One of the best moments in Philly this summer was seeing Florence and the Machine at the Festival Pier. The location is not in the best neighborhood (down the street from Philly's new casino), but the actual venue was surprisingly not terrible. It was small with decent acoustics for an outdoor venue, and it was right on the water with a great view of the bridge. I went with my friend Katie, and we ended up getting a great spot - the second row! We miss-read our tickets and thought the opening band came on at 7, but that was actually when the doors opened. So we were really early, but the upside of that was getting to be less than 20 feet from Florence. And Florence Welch is one artist who is totally worth seeing live and getting their early for. Her performance of her songs was very different than the recorded versions and, without a doubt, better. The CD doesn't do her voice justice. It has a range and intensity I didn't understand until that night. Plus her hippie-style dancing is just fun to watch. It was definitely one of the best concerts I've been to.

Florence Welch Show and Bill Cunningham Movie!

Eeee I'm so excited! This morning I bought tickets to the Florence and the Machine show in Philly this summer! If you haven't gotten on the Florence Welch band wagon, buy her CD asap. It is so so good. I'm going to the show in Philly because that is where I'll be working this summer, but she is also playing at the Greek Theater in LA. Be sure to buy tickets immediately. They will sell out.

This morning I also bought tickets to see the Bill Cunningham documentary: Bill Cunningham New York. For fashion lovers in LA, this spring is a smorgasbord of opportunities. First the Oscar Costumes exhibit, then the Rodarte exhibit, and now a Bill Cunningham film. The film is only playing in LA for a week at the Nuart, starting on March 25th. And on the first day the director and producer will be there. So get your tickets for that too! The trailer makes it look like a great glimpse into the life of a private man.
