Hello Summer

Goodbye Spring means hello Summer! Doesn't it always seem like the first day of summer is scheduled a little too late in the year? I know it's scientifically decided with the axis and the sun and whatnot. But maybe next year the Earth could just spin a little faster so summer could here a little sooner? These are some images I've collected over the past year on my Pinterest summer board. Right now they're inspiring me to give up studying for the bar, take a job that involves drinks with paper umbrellas, and live in a uniform of easy, beautiful dresses.

Spice up your Lighting

Over the past year, I keep coming across really interesting light fixtures. Would you put any of thee in your home? I would have them all! In one room! (Ok maybe separate rooms.)

1. Dripping light as seen on Megsplorations (please share if you know who makes this light)
2. Rope light from Atelier688 on Etsy
3. Greenhouse light made by Slenik
4. Balanced bulb light as seen on Cup of Jo (again share if you know who makes this light, in this case even the owners of this apartment forgot where they got this fixture)

Autumn Inspiration: Editorial - Low Tide

Elle ran a fall clothes editorial in May of this year. As much as I love autumn, May is a little early for even me to be thinking about wool pants and coats. Luckily, I guess, I didn't get around to reading this issue until August when I was more than ready to transition to fall, and I am completely inspired by the neutral layers in the barren landscape. I'm definitely feeling grown up dressing this fall.

Autumn Inspiration: Andrew Marc Ad Campaign

Andrew Marc mostly designs outerwear, which makes for perfect fall ads. It also makes for the perfect fall outfits, as Sylvana Ward Durrett so stylishly demonstrated for Vogue. Gorgeous jackets like these make me so excited for a chill in the air.

To Catch a Thief

"Miss. Stevens, you're one in a million."
"That's a routine compliment, but I'm willing to accept it."  - Grace Kelly in To Catch a Thief

If you can't tell, I spent some time this weekend watching old movies. Though the line was scripted and the wardrobe designed by someone else (the iconic Edith Head), Grace Kelly caries off this exchange without sounding conceited, just confident and poised. Doesn't every woman, at least a small part of her, wish she could be this witty and self-assured?

PS: I'm off to Big Bear Lake in a few moments. Enjoy the autumn inspiration posts I've lined up. I will certainly be enjoying the cool weather as an introduction to the new season.

Reading on the Weekends

What did you do this weekend? I went to brunch at a new-ish restaurant in West Hollywood with the boyfriend and dim sum out in the San Gabriel valley with school friends. Both were delicious! I also did a bit of reading, although I wish I'd done more! I'm working through several magazines left over from the summer before I'll let myself start on the September issues that I've accumulated (Vogue, Elle, and W). Plus I get the New York Times every Sunday, which is a weeks worth of reading in and of itself. I used to feel nerdy about staying home and reading, but then I read this fabulous article about Virginie Mouzat, the fashion editor for the French paper Le Figaro. She is chic in every sense of the word, and you know what she does on the weekend? Stay in and read. So I guess I was more chic than I thought!

PS: How ironic is this tv-come-bookshelf? I spotted it on Tales of Endearment.

First Day of School

Image from J. Crew's adorable kids collection. I would definitely wear this one my first day of school.

Classes start again tomorrow. Remember how excited you used to get as a child for the first day of school? I can't say I feel that, but I am excited to start my last year of law school! Only one more year, and I'm determined to make it a good one.

Flashback

Another post in my flashback series. You're looking at me wearing my most favorite Halloween costume ever. And you will not believe it, but my mom made this whole thing herself! I still have it. My mom was going to give it away, but I made her save it. I'm going to make my brother's kids wear it one day :)

Home Sweet Home

I've spent a few weekends at my parents house since I've been back, and I am so impressed with the improvements they've made. Now that they don't have kids to cart around to friends' houses and sports practices every waking moment, they've had time to cultivate a little haven. Every time I come home I love seeing what new things they've done. Also I love seeing our kitties! (That's Rocky below. He's generally the family favorite because he loves people so much.)

Keep on Climbing

My dad pointed this out to my mom and me when we were walking to Talula's for dinner. It really made us chuckle. Someone with a sense of humor saw the cracking brick wall and turned it into a little man climbing some stairs.

Big news!

I hope you all had a nice holiday weekend. I had a great weekend! Thanks to the generosity of my parents (thank you mom and dad!!!), I have a new laptop much sooner than I was expecting. Also my new laptop is a lot nicer than I was expecting too :) So I'm back on track for quality blogging. Here's a preview of what's coming over the next few days.
