Pinterest Obsession

So far I've got a general "Style Inspiration" pinboard (as seen above), but then I've also got all of these individually themed boards, like "Stripes," "Sequins and Shine," and "Statement Necklaces." (Judging by the names of my boards, apparently I'm into style inspiration alteration?) Pinterest makes it so easy to curate images linked by a theme. So expect more posts like Bags of a Different Color and Perfect Tomboy Fashion, since now I can organize my favorite images from the web!

A New Take on the Brooch

What a totally brilliant way to wear a brooch! Right in the middle of a turtleneck like its a pendant. I am going to try this out immediately.
PS: I am loving the blog this look is from. Have an hour to kill? Check out the way Megan puts vintage and modern pieces together. She is totally inspiring me to rework some pieces lost in the back of my closet.

Coveteur-Inspired Part 2
Continuing with my Coveteur-inspired photos, I shot a few more accessories with some beloved nick nacks - my mini hat boxes! I have gotten almost all of these as Christmas gifts from my best friend's parents. I don't know how they find such great boxes every year, but I love them.
Coveteur-Inspired Part 1
Have you seen this new website, The Coveteur? I'm obsessed with it. It is full of closely focused shots of fashion insiders' homes. Each shot contains clothing or accessories but also cherished nick nacks or loved home goods. It is a small window into the subject's life. A recent shoot used books as background for some of the subjects favorite pieces of jewelry. I thought the concept was really inventive, and decided to give it a try myself.

1. Drew Barrymore in Kevin Aucoin's Making Faces with teal sunglasses bought on the street in St. Mark's Square.
2. Dancers from the Broadway production of the Lion King in the show's program with earrings from Harrods. These earrings are so heavy and losing their color, but I cannot force myself to throw them away because who knows when I'll get back to London and get to shop at Harrods again?
3. Norma Kamali fashion in Couture: The Great Designers with silver earrings from some shop on Cary St. in Richmond. I got Couture from my parents when I graduated high school, and I still cherish it. It is a beautiful and comprehensive book.
4. Calvary Cemetary in Chicago from the Air with an antique pearl necklace from my Grandmother.
5. An N.C. Wyeth illustration in Kidnapped with flower and feather earrings, a gift from a friend with excellent taste in jewelry.

A Holiday Sweater Done Differently
I am still in a holiday sweater mood even though the holidays have officially passed. So I was immediately struck by the image on Facehunter of a young woman from Manila in a snowflake sweater. The Philippines is not a place I think of when it comes to winter fashion, but this girl is doing a great job wearing a holiday sweater in an individual way.

(In)decorous Taste
Do you read (In)decorous Taste? If you don't, you need to put it on your RSS feed today. Lauren doesn't post that much, but when she does, it is well worth the wait because she's always got something great to share. One thing she is particularly wonderful at is modifying her shoes into masterpieces. In the past this has involved painting, tying, and gluing extras on. But this time she went above and beyond, so I had to share. Check out her archives for more examples of creativity. And then join me in the campaign to get this girl her own shoe line so we can wear something this amazing on our feet as well!
Update: (In)decorous Taste now has online sales!

So Distracted!
I've been working pretty hard the last few days to finish my paper for our annual "write-on" competition. (My paper+my GPA is how the law school journals judge if I am worthy of their elite club.) But every time I get a good rhythm going I get distracted by the need to check Ebay to see if these Marni wedges I am coveting have been posted or if anyone has bid on the Marc Jacobs reverse heels that I would literally sacrifice some sort of a farm animal to a weird pagan god to have (since I can't get them by normal means because they are about $300 out of my price range). After Ebay, of course, I scoot over to check if they are any new blog posts. In my current moment of procrastination I came across this post of the most amazing shoes! More amazing than the Marni and the Marc Jacobs shoes combined!

Someone at Jil Sanders recently sent these masterpieces to Susie Bubble over at Style Bubble, and I am dying of jealousy. Sigh. I need to get back to work, so this law school things pays off with a job that provides enough disposable income for me to scoop up a pair of these.

Aaaah! Another Blog Celeb Sighting!
You guys are not going to believe what happened today! (Ok from the title of the post you probably already guessed that it has to do with a blog celeb sighting, but when I get to that part of the post, just act surprised anyway, will ya? Just humor me!)
So I decided that working at this corporate law firm was a good way to pay the bills and get my foot in the legal door, but it's not really one of those jobs that makes me feel good about my contribution to society... well... because basically my contribution to society is killing trees by printing endless unneeded documents for companies that probably did something bad.
In the grand scheme of the universe of karma, I don't think I'm doing very well at the moment, and so I decided to try and volunteer. The first thing that came to mind was the local paper, Street Sense. I had thought when I first moved to DC that it was some sort of scam, but then I read it once. There was one left over at the Greek Spot while I was waiting for my food one night. I can still remember so clearly, when I realized that the whole paper was dedicated to giving the poor and homeless in DC a voice, how impressed I was with the endeavor and how mad I was at myself for being so judgmental of the paper at first. So when they finally emailed me back about volunteering, I jumped at the chance to go to their orientation tonight!
I wandered into the church where Street Sense is located, and, after a bit of stumbling, finally found the bell for the Street Sense suite. Tromp tromp tromp. Someone comes down the stairs to let me in, and it is none other than Betsy who write the blog Fashion is Spinach! The best part was, she opened the door and says, "O my gosh, it's you!"
SHE RECOGNIZED ME!
Well to be more accurate she recognized my coat (the one from my shopping spree at The Remix. It's a pretty unmissable coat), but what a small world! Fashion is Spinach is one of my fav blogs ever, and one day Betsy wrote about how she was from Delaware in a post. Which is crazy because I am from Delaware too!
So I wrote her an email (which I've never done before - well not that I've never written an email. Of cooooourse I've done that. I mean I've never written one of my bloggers before). And then she wrote me back! So I sent her my blog, and obvi she reads it because she remember the coat. Which is equal part embarrassing and flattering because as much as I adore my little J Street blog, Fashion is Spinach is way better. Betsy's been doing the whole writing thing for quite some time longer. Well anyways she was there to volunteer too, and so I am hoping I run into her again. Blog celeb sightings are so fun!
